The short clip – called What matters most – suggests spending time with people who matter, rather than spending money on things that don’t. It highlights the emotional dangers of people comparing themselves to others in certain situations.
"The people who say they are miserable are usually comparing themselves to someone they think is better off," says the video. "While the people who are happy usually don't compare themselves to anybody at all."
Compare fair
An eZonomics poll asking if people know how much their friends earn suggests a fairer comparison. It says looking to people in your work place and in similar jobs elsewhere is more "productive". Comparing with co-workers is closer to comparing "like" with "like" -- and if underpayment is discovered, it's possible a hike could be negotiated.
