
Not-for-profit organisation TED seeks to spread ideas with their informative videos – now it has issued a list of its 20 most-watched TED Talks. Our favourites include Dan Gilbert’s Why Are We Happy?, relevant to the growing field of happiness economics, and Arthur Benjamin’s fascinating Mathemagic, which combines the presenter’s passion of maths and magic.

How can we increase our success in achieving goals? Eric Barker highlights research that says small increments can help. He writes progress is measured by focusing on either how much you’ve completed or how much is left to do. Completing a step generates motivation to move on to the next one.

Teams often possess a rich pool of skills – thanks to the variety of backgrounds, intellect and expertise on offer – but they often struggle to use them, according to research. The overview of 72 studies says many groups spend time talking about shared information rather than new points unique to each member. Groups performed better when solving a problem when an answer existed (rather than seeking consensus) and benefitted from structured and focused discussion.
